Power Plants

01

A group of plants called Proteaceae is a key piece of evidence proving Australia and South Africa were one land mass in ancient days. These plants have no close relatives.

They have huge compound blossoms and woody fruits. They are the opposite of the frilly northern hemisphere flowers which shrivel up in a week. The blooms of the Protea group, which includes Grevilleas, Hakeas, Banksias and Telopeas, are bold, large and tough as iron. Surprisingly, these qualities make them ideal as cut flowers. Not only does the sheer grandeur empower a room but their ruggedness ensures they last for weeks, possibly months, in a vase.
