The Meaning of Spiders

01

It’s unfortunate that an entire group of 8-legged animals is labelled with the single word “spider” for among them are personalities so different, so endearing, so intriguing, that they surely should have a separate name reflecting their softer natures. Sure, there are dark, hairy, ground-dwelling lurkers conjuring up visions of all that is evil. But above the ground, swinging from sweet-scented herbs and tucked among dewy flowers are representatives of the group that, some believe, are here to teach humankind some important lessons.

The behaviors of spiders can be interpreted as symbolic. The “lighter” spiders, those dwelling in the aerial realms of silken orbs, stir the human mind and soul. Their spiral webs symbolize the ongoing process of life, growth, constant improvement and, in some cases, new beginnings. Some build their webs with circles which symbolize protection, wholeness, oneness, solidarity and integrity. The spider is an unusual creature because it has both negative and positive connotations.

This story brings a new understanding of nature’s messages through the symbolism of spiders. It can be written to your specifications as either a short or a longer piece with many lovely illustrations of spiders and their webs.
