The Gold Medal Frog
It’s the four-year anniversary of Sydney’s hosting of the Olympic Games in 2000. One story that made the headlines at the time was how the Green and Golden Bell Frog managed to hold up construction of the facilities. One population of this rapidly declining species was found in the Brick Pit—a former industrial wasteland and proposed site for the Tennis Centre. The frogs won. The Tennis Centre was quickly relocated and the Brick Pit was tailored into an aquatic frog paradise complete with wading pools, diving platforms and courtship ponds.
Esther plans an anniversary visit to see just how well this enclave of Green and Golden Bell Frogs has adapted to their aquatic heaven.
