Birds of the Rainbow
The shimmer of a rainbow at sunset is pallid in comparison to the fiery ensemble worn by Rainbow Lorikeets. They fill an important function in Australia by beautifying many urban landscapes. As if being stunningly beautiful wasn’t enough, they also take on another role. They act as a sort of visitors welcome committee by being cheerfully friendly and easy to tame.
As a visitor to Australia, you don’t have to be a hard-core twitcher, crouching behind shrubbery and spying through expensive binoculars to get a view of these parrots. In fact, you will probably be bowled over by one as it whooshes by on its way to a backyard feeder.
