Kooljaman—the Way Aborigines Want It

This beautiful wilderness set on the tip of the Dampier Peninsula is far, far away from all of Australia’s cities and towns. It is also far, far away from the concept of what makes up a “resort”. It could have been a movie set for Out of Africa. It combines lavish accommodation with a primitive, semi-clad lifestyle.

Living is out of doors. Palm-fringed huts, a pristine ocean, sparkling white sand, endless seas, the haunting scent of tea-tree burning in the evening air and “friendly natives”. In fact, they own the place! Kooljaman is one of the greatest success stories of aboriginal people taking up a commercial enterprise and running it their way, in line with their traditional values, and making a success of it.
