Praying for Birds of Prey

01

Esther encountered some superb birds of prey in the Top End (the name given to the northern part of the Northern Territory). Captive hawks, buzzards, eagles and owls are trained through the ancient art of falconry—a practice completely prohibited throughout Australia. So how is it then that falconry is permitted and supported at a particular wildlife facility?

Esther also discovered that not only do raptors like being tethered and trained but that they can release themselves from “captivity” if and when they feel like it. These captive ambassadors are on a mission to help restore the dwindling numbers of their fellow beings, other birds of prey in the wild.
