The Aboriginal Eric Clapton
There’s a thriving music industry Outback. Young tribal aboriginals travel hundreds of miles/kilometres into regional centres like Alice Springs and Darwin to join in a session or to do a gig at a pub. One of these, Frank Yamma from King’s Canyon, has a wizardry on the guitar which has earned him the nickname “The Eric Clapton of the Bush”.
“Years after taking his photo at Emily Gap, I bought Frank’s wonderful CD called Piranpa. Listening to it instantly transports me back into the stark canyons of the MacDonnell Ranges where I took his portrait.”
~ Esther Beaton
