The Melbourne Water Life in the Tall Eucalypt Forests Exhibition
Melbourne Water Life in the Tall Eucalypt Forests is an exhibition of photographs by nature photojournalist Esther Beaton that capture the beauty of the Mountain Ash forests of Victoria’s central Highlands and the vast number of species, plants, animals, fungi and other microbes that call the eucalypt forest home.
The photographs reveal in stunning detail the intricate webs of dependency that have evolved among the inhabitants of the tall eucalypts, and the delicate balance with which this community is held together.
Esther has collaborated with renowned forest ecologist Dr David Lindenmayer to create these incredible photographs and captions, and to produce a breathtaking, user-friendly photographic journey through the forest that is a unique collaboration between art and science.
Forty of the best images from the book were selected for the exhibition. These are available for sale as limited edition prints. They are all crafted to the highest quality available from modern printing resources. Each print was made from a digital scan of the original colour transparency and printed on high-quality photographic material. Each print is of archival quality if properly cared for, and can reasonably be expected to have a display life of many years.
The Exhibition is now featuring permanently at the The Toolangi Forest Discovery Centre. The building is strikingly-designed with local timbers and set among messmate and mountain ash forests.
