Gymea Dream
The Gymea Lily is a staggering flower. It rises to 4 metres or more on the top of a stalk as straight and solid as a spear. The flower head is made up of as many as 50 individual blossoms coloured a shade of deep pink that could only have been chosen by a fashion designer. And if that isn’t enough, each flower reveals a pool of thick sweet nectar when it opens. Strangely, I’ve never seen honeyeaters—or any animal—drinking it. Gymeas are only found in the Sydney region and after a bushfire, I’ve seen hundreds of plants sprout from a blackened hillside.
This shot was quite straightforward—nothing more than a macro lens and available light. However, the dreamlike technique was added later. It was a simple technique: a Photoshop filter.
