Galah Feeding Chick
The Galah is probably the most common parrot in Australia. Their commonness makes many people take them for granted. I don’t. Whenever I’m lucky enough to get close to one, I’m mesmerised by the delicate pink feathers which look like they have been dusted with light powder. In outback or agricultural areas, they congregate in huge flocks. In urban areas, they travel together in smaller groups.
I noticed a few feeding by the side of the road in a country town and I tracked them for a few hours with my car, stopping whenever they did and shooting out the window. At one point, a group wandered so close that my vantage point was almost straight down onto them, a really awkward angle and almost too close to focus. It was then that one adult decided to feed its chick and I was lucky to quickly capture this touching scene. To me it expresses the love and trust between parent and child.
