Day Safaris for 2008
Day Safaris are single day excursions, usually on the first Saturday of each month. Safaris start at 9am and finish at 5pm unless otherwise noted. If rain is imminent, the Day Safari will be postponed to the following Saturday.
Morning or afternoon tea is included; participants should bring their own lunch and drinks as well as their own photographic equipment. Meeting venue and lunch arrangements will be confirmed at the time of booking.

- Hot spots: Matcham Reserve, Wamberal Lagoon
- Subjects: A magical rainforest; reflections and patterns. Waterbirds, ducks and waders.
- Techniques: “Camera Power” – getting the basics of photography – with any camera. “How do you get it so clear?” – all the factors of getting your photo pin sharp. People in the landscape – candid vs posed.

- Hot spots: Calga Springs Sanctuary, Somersby Falls
- Subjects: Kangaroos, pademelons and native wildlife. Waterfalls and shady gullies.
- Techniques: Tips and tricks with wildlife. Getting light and colour into dark forests and canyons; moving water fast vs slow. Close up filters; learning about filters and other colour controls. Sanctuary entrance fee not included. Parking fee not included.

- Hot spots: Empire Bay, Bouddi National Park
- Subjects: Ironbark orchids. Nesting parrots, Swamp Mahoganies, mangroves and tiny bush birds. Tessellated rock formations; leisagang rings; ocean views.
- Techniques: At the nest or on the wing - which is the best way with birds? “Perfect exposure” - how to avoid blocky shadows, stark highlights and washed out colours.

- Hot spots: Crommelin Native Arboretum, Ettalong Point
- Subjects: Tranquil glades, close ups and patterns of native flowers and trees. Beautiful beaches, crashing waves, ocean-swept rock platforms.
- Techniques: Close up techniques; impactful compositions. Landscapes with long vs wide angle lenses; critical focusing, composing for high key or low key; time exposures.
